Aquascaping basics

Acquascaping, as a form of expression, is based on some formal rules typical in the visual arts. AquaBrasilis site collect some articles, in Portuguese, on the subject:

Excellent, in particular, the one entitled "AQUARISMO COMO ARTE". Thanks to the illustrations it becomes understandable even to those who do not fully undestand this language.

Aquamind laboratory

ADA is the most popular Japanese brand of aquariums and aquarium accessories. But beyond this reality exists in Japan, other small brands that produce real jewels; aquamind laboratory is one of these and like ADA sells its products through a website.

In addition to the shop on site there is the owner blog, that has evolved through three successive versions: the first was AM1, from the second (AM2) an image below, the third and last closed definitively on 10/16/2009.

Discussions on products and tanks of the owner is continuing on Twitter as shown on the home page of the site.

Aquarium Algae

Aquarium and algae... these words often walk togheter hand by hand. If you have algae in the aquarium and you want to clean them, or better if you do not have and you want to prevent them, Aquarioum Algae ID is the right blog.

Besides the description of some basic on most common causes of algae there are many photos that help to identify them

for each type of algae most common cause and proper treatment to eliminate them are explained .
Informations are nothing new but are certainly well organized and periodically updated.

Nature Aquarium

Biotope is an area of uniform environmental conditions providing a living place for a specific assemblage of plants and animals.
Nature Aquarium site describes the natural habitats which our aquarium fishes come from and explain how to recreate them at home.

The descriptions are exhaustive and competent. Definitely a site to visit for those who want to try the challenge.
In italian only...

APC (Aquatic Plant Central)

This week a link to forum: APC

I think it is one of the largest, English language, forums dedicated to aquarium plants. It is certainly one of the best known.

I want to highlight two sections: "Lybrary", with the aquariums of the month, and DIY section where you can find beautiful articles on all aquarium ware. Sticky, here, a discussion on yeast CO2, that is nothing off exhaustive, and a long discussion on Drop Checkers.

Aquarticles

A name states it all... Aquarticles.com , as in it's author words is "An international collection of articles about fish and aquariums..."

The site aesthetics is minimalist but the contents are ecellent. Is not updated often but is open to contributions.

AquaScaping World

For those who still didn't know. AquaScaping World is the most beautiful aquascaping webzine.

The magazine, contains wonderful photos and interesting articles in an elegant layout.
A single note: the magazine stopped at number 7, which dates back to September 2008.

In related forum there is the continuos promise of new numbers, but after a year nothing new.
Going over, the forum should be seen. Here you can see a lot of beautiful pictures posted from the best world wide aquascapers...

Caridina Japonica

Since Takashi Amano has, for first time, used Yamato numa-ebi (大和沼海老),alias Caridina multidentata, form. Caridina japonica, has become a popular guest of our aquariums.

caridina.japonica.online.fr is a French site completely dedicated to this specie. It is not very wide but is completed with an excellent links page.
Pages are also translated in English.

Aquarium mosses

Today not one link but three, for those who cultivate mosses in the aquarium.

The first site is Aquamoss

an English-language website, maintained by a tru mosses fan, with several articles on the subject.
A true gold mine for those who cultivate bryophytes in the aquarium.

The second site Bryophyte Ecology is the digital version of the homonymous book written by Dr. Janice Glim PhD at M.S. University.
Does not explicitly deal to aquarium mosses still contains a wealth of great value informations. In English.

The third site aquamoss.ch is maintained by Sebastian Prati a mossess and shrimps fan.

Despite the name of the site I found only some cards about mosses, however, I suggest a visit to the site for articles on shrimps where stand out the one on anatomy of Caridina sp..

Tropica Aquarium Plants

Tropica is a major European grower and seller of aquatic plants, it' site is in my opinion one of the most useful for those involved in aquaplanting.

This website provides consultation for plants data, those informations are a landmark in this field.
Recently has become available an on-line electronic version of their catalog which alone is worth the time to visit the site.
Very interesting and in-depth articles also present.

Fishbase

As from its name Fishbase is a database containing the data of over 31,000 species of fish accompanied, in most cases, the relevant photos.
The home page interface is, at least, essential:not more than a form to enter search parameters:

simple and effective.

It 'available in all major languages of the world and is definitely an essential tool for anyone breeding fishes.
Unfortunately, the main server is often unavaillable for network overload and I suggest to bookmark all mirrors addresses to find most available one.

Aquatic Eden

Aquatic Eden is a blog in English dedicated to aquascaping.

Chuck's Planted Aquaria Pages

Chuck Gadd site is one of the most popular planted acquarium sites.
It 'a personal website in English that contains some wonderful articles including some about aquarium startup and others about fertilization.

One of the reasons why it is very well known is that it allow to download a program to calculate the dosages of fertilizer elements to make DIY fertilizers.
Hidden in the articles there is a web version of this program which can be used on-line.

Another tool available allows the calculation of CO2 starting from pH and KH values.

another ..... GRASS GLASS STYLE

This blog title says it all: another ..... GRASS GLASS STYLE is a Japanese language blog
dedicated to an aquarium with a beautiful lawn.

It has little to offer but the beautiful photos that You has to find in older posts. The blogger seems not to update the site nowaday and the latest photos show a different aquarium.
Searching in the old posts You can find some good ideas on the use of an external filter for weekly water change . Other suggestions are in the use of buckets ... search for it ;-)

ADA

ADA is mythical trademark in aquarium. Its founder Takashi Amano, the guru of nature aquarium philosophy, has its own personal website where you can admire his beautiful nature pictures.
Much more interesting (and inspiring) are pictures published in the galleries of both the European site ADA Europe

and in Japanese main site

where You can, also, find links to other ADA sites scattered throughout the various countries; lot of material including downloadable manuals about creation and maintenace of Nature Aquarium.

Aquagarden

The main resource for Italian aquascapers is the site of Aquagarden: an aquarium plants webzine with high level articles.

The webzine is joined to Aquagarden forum:

the sticky discussion would be enough to justify the existence of the forum but You cand find more in many other discussions that contributed to the development dell'aquascaping in Italy.

Unfortunately, for the people around the world, the content is in Italian only.
