Little signs of life

I think that every aquarium keeper has happened, sooner or later, to see, at least once, small signs of life moving in water without being able to identify him. I have found at least 3 web sites that can help you find out what you face ...

The first iis a section of Microscopy UK. Here we can find a section named "Pond Life Identification Kit" . From a drawings menu you are driven link by link to specific articles on the identified specie .

The second is a personal site of an Italian hobbyist named Luciana Bartolini. The section "Insetti e larve d'acqua" ("Water Insects and larvae ") contains some detailed pictures of various kinds of these animals.

The third site is a small collection of pictures at http://pot.potorti.it/acquari/animaletti/.
Only few photos, but very useful ...

Discus and Angelfish

This time the links for two Italian sites dedicated to most remarkable freshwater aquarium fishes: Discus and Angelfish.

On
Italian Angelfish web site you can find everything you might need to identify and breed your Angelfish. The site is monothematic and fairly complete.

Mondo Discus is a wider site translated into several languages and with sections on other species in addition to the discus. There are also some articles more general, but still valid, on aquariums, and aquatic plants.

Aquascaping basics

Acquascaping, as a form of expression, is based on some formal rules typical in the visual arts. AquaBrasilis site collect some articles, in Portuguese, on the subject:

Excellent, in particular, the one entitled "AQUARISMO COMO ARTE". Thanks to the illustrations it becomes understandable even to those who do not fully undestand this language.

Aquamind laboratory

ADA is the most popular Japanese brand of aquariums and aquarium accessories. But beyond this reality exists in Japan, other small brands that produce real jewels; aquamind laboratory is one of these and like ADA sells its products through a website.

In addition to the shop on site there is the owner blog, that has evolved through three successive versions: the first was AM1, from the second (AM2) an image below, the third and last closed definitively on 10/16/2009.

Discussions on products and tanks of the owner is continuing on Twitter as shown on the home page of the site.

Aquarium Algae

Aquarium and algae... these words often walk togheter hand by hand. If you have algae in the aquarium and you want to clean them, or better if you do not have and you want to prevent them, Aquarioum Algae ID is the right blog.

Besides the description of some basic on most common causes of algae there are many photos that help to identify them

for each type of algae most common cause and proper treatment to eliminate them are explained .
Informations are nothing new but are certainly well organized and periodically updated.

Nature Aquarium

Biotope is an area of uniform environmental conditions providing a living place for a specific assemblage of plants and animals.
Nature Aquarium site describes the natural habitats which our aquarium fishes come from and explain how to recreate them at home.

The descriptions are exhaustive and competent. Definitely a site to visit for those who want to try the challenge.
In italian only...

APC (Aquatic Plant Central)

This week a link to forum: APC

I think it is one of the largest, English language, forums dedicated to aquarium plants. It is certainly one of the best known.

I want to highlight two sections: "Lybrary", with the aquariums of the month, and DIY section where you can find beautiful articles on all aquarium ware. Sticky, here, a discussion on yeast CO2, that is nothing off exhaustive, and a long discussion on Drop Checkers.
